While face-to-face conferences and seminars aren’t yet back on the agenda for Australia-based members, AAPD is pleased to still be able to deliver quality online events in the coming weeks and months.
First off, AAPD has partnered with Inclusion Designlab to host a webinar series on disability, oral health and the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme).
The series will provide an overview of recent interdisciplinary projects relating to oral health and intellectual disability, with connections to paediatric dentistry and an introduction to the NDIS.
The next event in the series will take place on Monday 22 February at 6:30-8pm (AEDT) and is titled ‘Interdisciplinary and funded supports’. The webinar will feature an overview of the NDIS from an ECEI (Early Childhood Early Intervention) perspective from Chris McClelland, the Branch Manager for Early Childhood Services within the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).
The session will also include a presentation from speech pathologist Emma Necus outlining the relationship between speech pathology, children and adolescents, the NDIS and the disability support sector.

The second event is the big one, the AAPD Annual Conference, which this year will be taking place on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 May. As the Southern Hemisphere’s flagship event for paediatric dentists, this is two days you will want to block out on your calendar.
AAPD has been working with colleagues in New Zealand to organise this virtual conference, which will be hosted from Queenstown. The AAPD Post-Graduate Event will take place on the Friday and the AAPD Scientific Programme on the Saturday.
It is hoped that local NZ-based members, presenters and guests will be able to attend in-person. All components of the event, however, will be accessible online via live stream to Australia-based members as well as NZ-based members that choose to attend virtually rather than face-to-face.
