About Lisa Bowdin

Dr Lisa Bowdin is currently a senior lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry at The University of Western Australia, and Consultant at Perth Children's Hospital. She completed a Bachelor of Dental Science at The University of Western Australia, graduating in 2010. Whilst there she was involved with the University Dental Students Society, eventually acting as the final year student representative. She also received the Australian Society of Orthodontics (WA) Prize in Orthodontics as the highest achieving student in 4th year orthodontics. Her interest in paediatric dentistry was peaked during her final year rotations, at which time she was fortunate enough to observe at the school dental service, as well as private paediatric dentists in Perth. Following graduation, Lisa worked as a general dentist in Bunbury, a rural centre in South West WA. The clinic treated both adults and children, and further reinforced that paediatric dentistry was Lisa’s main area of interest. To facilitate this, Lisa completed her Primary Examinations with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2014, received commendations in Anatomy, Physiology, Cell Biology, Microbiology and Pathology. Lisa completed her postgraduate studies in paediatric dentistry at the University of Western Australia, graduating with a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Paediatric Dentistry) in 2018. During this time, she completed her thesis titled “Preliminary evaluation of Biodentine™ as a restorative material: in vitro”. As part of this program, Lisa acted as a paediatric dental registrar at The Oral Health Centre of Western Australia, treating children from low income families, and at Princess Margaret Hospital, treating children with medical and special needs. Lisa previously operated as a private paediatric dentist, helping children in the Perth community achieve their smiles. She is experienced in the use of relative analgesia and comprehensive oral rehabilitation under general anaesthesia. Her goal is to create a safe space for children to visit the dentist, and create lifelong healthy habits. Lisa has served for many years on the WA committee of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry. She is currently the ANZSPD Federal Vice President and WA Federal Councillor. In addition to ANZSPD, she is a member of the International Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry and The International Academy of Dental Traumatology. She regularly attends national and international conferences, and has spoken and presented her research at multiple conferences. She was the winner of the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry Colgate recent graduate competition after presenting her essay on the potential applications of Hall Crowns in school dental programs. Lisa lives with her husband and labradoodle, Frankie. She enjoys taking Frankie for runs, playing computer games, reading and going to the gym. Publications: 1.
