Topic
"Controversial"
- Relevant to the practice of paediatric dentistry.
- May include paediatric medicine and allied health.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be an active (ie paid up) member of the AAPD
- Graduated from an approved post graduate course within the last 5 years (ie 2019 – 2023)
- Registered to attend the AAPD meeting at their own cost.
Judging panel
The judging panel will consist of the President of the AAPD or their nominee, an active member of the AAPD and a Colgate representative.
Selection process
PHASE 01
Participants must provide a topic and a 200 word abstract to AAPD Vice-President (vicepresident@aapd.org.au) by 12th July 2024. Five abstracts will be selected by the Judging Panel to go forward to the second phase of the competition. Participants will be notified of the result of this first phase of the competition by the 22nd July 2024.
PHASE 02
a) 1000-word essay suitable for publication in the AAPD Member Newsletter, must be submitted by each eligible participant, for assessment by the judges, to the Vice-President (vicepresident@aapd.org.au) by midnight AET Sunday 1st September 2024. It must be evidence-based and present the arguments for and against the particular topic with a definite position in the conclusion. `More research is needed in this area’ is not an acceptable position.
b) Oral presentations will be given in person by each eligible participant at the AAPD Conference in Mooloolaba on the 27th of September 2024 and assessed by the Judging Panel. Oral presentations are limited to 10 slides including the Title and Acknowledgement slides. The digital file must be ready for loading by 9am on the day of the presentation. The oral presentation should take no more than 15 minutes including 3 minutes for questions and be based on the essay giving a clear and succinct interpretation and opinion on the subject matter.
